Description

University House July Meet the Chef Dinner will feature Mark Best, one of Australia’s best-regarded chefs and owner of multi-award winning restaurant, Marque, in Sydney.

On the night, Mark will be in conversation with Natasha Rudra, Life & Entertainment Editor of The Canberra Times, to discuss his latest book, Best Kitchen Basics. The dinner includes a canape, main and dessert inspired by Mark’s cookbook, Best Kitchen Basics, prepared by Boffins' Executive Chef, Anshul Chandna, and his team, a glass of Clonakilla wine, tea and coffee.

For Mark Best, the art of cooking is to take a simple ingredient and turn it into something beautiful. Mark’s philosophy is that great cooking is not a question of luxurious ingredients but it is having the knowledge and ability to unlock the beauty of some of the most basic elements of cooking.

“….a Best menu is almost inevitably new territory. You will not eat food like this, encounter such ideas on the plate, elsewhere. Originality abounds alongside a healthy interest in – and yet at the same time healthy disdain for – the tricks of the new wave”. – RW Apple, New York Times

Mark Best multi-award winning restaurant, Marque, in Sydney has been recognised with three hats in the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide for 10 consecutive years. International recognition includes being the recipient of the San Pellegrino and Restaurant Magazine UK Top 50 Breakthrough award in 2010 and named in their Top 100 Best Restaurants in the World in both 2011 and 2012. Marque topped the Australian contingent in Elite Traveller’s top 100 restaurants in 2014. Now, 25 years after his first foray into the world of food, Best has established a place in the pantheon of chefs of international renown.
